Things to do near Llandudno in winter

Winter is a lovely time to explore this part of North Wales, with quieter paths, crisp air and clear views across the coast. Here are a few of our favourites, all within easy reach of Tan Y Bryn.

Walk the Great Orme

The headland is much quieter in winter. Look out for the famous wild goats and enjoy big views across the bay from the summit. On a clear day you can see along the coast towards Anglesey and back across to the mountains of Eryri. There are paths to suit all levels, from a gentle loop around Marine Drive to a steeper climb to the top, so pack good boots and a flask and make a morning of it.

Llandudno promenade and pier

Wrap up for a bracing seafront stroll along the Victorian promenade, then warm up with a hot drink or lunch in town. The sweeping bay is just as beautiful under a winter sky, and you will often have long stretches of it to yourself. Finish with a wander along the pier and a browse of the independent shops and cafés in the town centre.

Conwy

Explore the castle, walk the medieval town walls and wander along the quayside. It is just a short drive away and perfect for a half day out. The walls give fantastic views over the estuary and rooftops, and the narrow streets are full of characterful pubs, tearooms and local shops. Do not miss the Smallest House in Great Britain on the quay before you head home.

Bodnant Garden

The winter garden is a real highlight on a frosty morning, with plenty of colour and scent even in the colder months. Look out for bright stems, early bulbs and fragrant winter shrubs as you follow the paths through the grounds. There is a café on site too, so it is easy to turn a quick visit into a relaxed few hours.

Festive lights and markets

Through November and December, Llandudno and Conwy come alive with Christmas lights, markets and local makers, ideal for picking up gifts. It is a great chance to find something handmade and support small Welsh businesses while you are here. Grab a mulled wine, soak up the atmosphere and head back to the site for a cosy evening.

Day trips into Eryri

Head inland to Betws-y-Coed for waterfalls, forest walks and snowy views of the mountains, then come back for a cosy evening in your pod or motorhome. Swallow Falls is especially impressive after winter rain, and the village has plenty of outdoor shops and cafés to explore. If you fancy something a little more adventurous, the wider national park is full of scenic drives and trails to discover.

However you spend your days, our sunsets over the coast are the perfect way to end them.
